As Alan Watts states: "Money is just bookkeeping." It's a way of keeping track of what's owed to you, and what you owe to your community. But it's not an actual, biologically required resource, and it creates a great deal of problems in the world. We automate jobs and fire people that are no longer needed, and expect to make more money from a community that now has less money to spend. Then these jobless people are expected to find work doing tasks that aren't even useful to themselves or others. That's where marketing comes in. It convinces people they need certain items to be happy, which creates jobs for people to create these unnecessary things. But it's not fulfilling work, and deep down the laborers can feel this. Which is a big reason people lose interest in their job. A job without meaning, leads to the feeling of living a life without meaning.
